Safety with a New Puppy

If it is time for a new puppy, you will have to puppy-proof your house. Move all dangerous chemicals out of reach of your curious puppy, so poisoning will not be common in your household. If you have a pool or pond, cover it with one of those pool-covers, so your puppy will not wander in and not be able to get out. Puppies love to chew, so move your valuables like childrens' toys and houseplants out of the way so you do not get holes in your leaves or stuffing out of your toys. Make sure to buy the puppy dog toys to keep its chewing habit in control. Keep gates closed in your yard, so you will not lose your wandering puppy. Think of all the dangers outside your yard (vehicles, lawnmowers, and so on). Dogs have natural habits to eat when of course hungry, so keep garbage cans sealed closed so no garbage can make your dog sick. If you want to toilet-train your puppy, old newspaper should cover part of your floor in the area the puppy is in, and babygates should ensure that your dog will be in the right potty-training area, and from letting puppies invade rooms of your house you do not want it to be in. Lastly, unplug all electrical things that are in your puppy's way, to avoid chewing and electricuting. Remember, your puppy is curious, and needs to know what and what not to do in your house!
